Cooking From Your Seasonal Pantry
July 10, 2021, 5:30-7:00pm
The Northside Farmers Market is proud to present Cooking From Your Seasonal Pantry. An online cook-along class hosted by personal chef and friend of the market Chef Maggie Lawson. On July 10th from 5:30 - 7:00 we invite you to log on with us for an entertaining and educational class in which you will cook along with Chef Maggie in the comfort and convenience of your home kitchen as she guides you along through the process of preparing three dishes: A beautiful dish of cantaloup with prosciutto & a balsamic reduction, a satisfying brined & roasted chicken with summer vegetables, and a refreshing crunchy lemony salad.
This is more than just a "learn a recipe" class though. This is a class which intends to teach you intuitive methods in the kitchen to maximize your use of local, seasonal ingredients and common pantry items. We want to empower everyone to be able to shop weekly at the Northside Farmers Market and feel confident they can prepare easy, fast, healthy, and delicious meals every night of the week with whatever might be available.
The class is also a fundraiser for the market to raise money for operational costs. To that end we are asking for a $20.00 admission fee for the class. Fee waivers are available, please inquire. We want to provide access to anyone who would like to attend and learn more about healthy, local foods. We will also be preparing ingredient kits from the market vendors that will be available to purchase for an additional cost. If you prefer to do all of your shopping, a complete list of ingredients and tools will be made available. Some recipes may be modified depending on availability from the farmer.
Please gather the family in the kitchen, flip open the laptop, and join us for a fun and delicious evening. You will be supporting the Farmers Market, learning great methods for preparing delicious, healthy, and quick meals that you and your family can enjoy every night of the week.
Maggie Lawson began her career in cooking and wellness 15 years ago. Her passion for food justice and health drew her to Oakland, CA where she spent five years working as a nutrition health educator for young people and their families. This work showed her that the most compelling reason to change the way you eat was to discover and make accessible the amazing flavors of in-season produce. The art scene in Oakland also helped her re-establish her love for the arts and she began working with other artists in her community to mount huge community dinners, underground art shows, and develop performance art on her family history. The merging of all these passions has created a life-long love for helping others lead their most vibrant, creative lives through healthy eating. Her clients range from authors, tech entrepreneurs, holistic healers, professional athletes, to high powered lawyers.
Her move back to Cincinnati in January 2020 helped expand her knowledge of what can be cultivated and foraged in Southern Ohio and she is excited to bring this back to the kitchen. She will launch a new brand, Goosefoot Cook & Grow, in August 2021.
