Strengthening relationships for a better future
Many marriages today are struggling and are in desperate need of guidance and encouragement. Unfortunately, today our lives have become so busy that at the end of the day our relationships and communication with each other suffer and the quality time spent together is slowly disappearing.
No matter what stage of life you are in, whether you are a couple planning your wedding day, already enjoying a strong marriage or if your marriage is struggling there is a marriage mentor couple who believes in and values God's gift of marriage and is available to work with you.
What is a Marriage Mentor?
A marriage mentor is a couple whose passion and belief is to assist other couples to have a strong lasting marriage. Through their own experience and professional training these couples understand that a healthy marriage takes continuous communication and commitment toward each other. They are dedicated and trained to help couples strengthen their relationships one step at a time.
About the Mentors
All the mentor couples here at Northside Family Ministries are volunteers. They experience the same everyday struggles as other couples do, for example finances, communication, raising families, busy life styles and so on. They have made a commitment to God and each other to work through these issues together and build a healthy marriage. We believe strong healthy marriages can make a difference in tomorrow's future.
How does the mentoring program work?
- All couples individually complete the Prepare/Enrich assessment online. This assessment will show the strength and growth areas of your relationship and is a great starting point for you and your mentors.
- A marriage mentor couple will call to set up a time to get acquainted.
- Couples will meet as needed for a period of 6 or 7 sessions for premarital or up to 13 weeks for couples that are already married.
- A year later couples will complete the Prepare/Enrich assessment for a second time, this shows how your relationship is growing after you have had time to apply some of the skills you have learned.
Comments from couples who have been mentored
"Having mentors makes us feel like we aren't alone in our problems. It's nice to have another couple to relate to when a crisis hits or even in the daily trials of parenting."
"Our marriage mentors helped us to squarely face issues in a safe manner and in a stable setting. However, they didn't simply "drag out our garbage" to stink up our session--they provided us with hands-on tools to resolve our differences!"
"Having marriage mentors helped us understand and put into action what scripture says about our roles as husband and wife. Their support continues to be invaluable to our marriage. We would have never believed that this would help our marriage the way that it has."
"Our marriage mentors "normalized" our challenges by being open and honest regarding their personal experiences, which in turn encouraged us to persevere. We found that it was easier to take responsibility for our individual growth areas since both mentors provided each of us with their distinct insights on the same issue. As a result, it helped us to appreciate the genuine differences between a man and a woman and how this affects our communication."
